Our History
B.B. Lotspeich’s founding of Lotspeich Flooring Company in 1928 planted the seed for one of the most respected construction firms in South Florida, Lotspeich Company. Established as a commercial flooring contractor, the company quickly adopted installing acoustical tile ceilings when these were introduced by Armstrong to quiet commercial buildings.
After college and U.S. Navy service thirty years later, son Jay W. Lotspeich returned to Miami to work at the family business. In 1963, he assumed charge of the company and changed the name to Lotspeich Company Inc. as the company’s work was no longer principally flooring. Under his guidance, Lotspeich expanded into metal framing and drywall, insulation, modular walls and panels, and raised access flooring. In 1967 he established the office in Fort Lauderdale and followed in 1973 with another in Tampa.
In 1981 Jim Mandich joined Lotspeich, and he became President in 1986. He moved the remaining flooring operations into Trident Surfacing Inc. Under Mr. Mandich’s leadership, Lotspeich increased its capacity to manage ever larger and more complex projects and expanded its presence into Southwest Florida.
Scott Masson, a partner who joined the company in 1985, became President in 2010 and oversees Lotspeich Company in Miami and the back office operations of its affiliates today. John Dusnik began managing Lotspeich Contracting in Tampa in 1985 and is this affiliate’s President and principal shareholder. Well into our 95th year, we look forward to many more serving the construction needs of our customers.
